The Adjarian Public Broadcaster was created as a result of amendments made to the Law on Broadcasting on December 25, 2013 and on the basis of the Adjarian Television and Radio Company founded in 1987.
The governing bodies of the TV compare are the Advisory Board and the Director General.
The Advisory Board consists of five members, who are selected through an open competition. From among the candidates selected by the competition commission, the factions of the Supreme Council of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara shall nominate three candidates proportionally to the number of their members, while at least one fourth of the rest of members (opposition) of the Supreme Council shall nominate to the Adjarian Supreme Council two candidates for election.
The Advisory Board defines Adjarian Public Broadcaster’s program priorities.
Content-related obligations envisaged by Article 16 of the Law on Broadcasting also apply to the public broadcaster’s Adjarian television and radio.
